and the state banquet had been prepared by the Oriental Hotel (yes, u hear the name the Oriental Hotel again!) to the government house

actually all state banquet and royal banquet (this is no joke, as guests in a royal banquet r royalties from the world, they hv pretty high taste buds) always choose the Oriental Hotel to do the job

so u know how good the Oriental Hotel gastronomy team r

Stella said...

Great, something new here today.
Oriental Hotel again huh.
I agree that Oriental Hotel is the best. Especially after the buffet at Lord Jim and the French lunch at Le Normandie, which I want to go again. I also want to try all other restaurants at Oriental next time, including the coffee shop and the Arthur's Lounge.
How can "Peninsula" compete with "Oriental" after all?

Anonymous said...

Oriental Hotel again. You and In the Sea already said many things about Oriental Hotel. In the Sea told me many times to try stay in Oriental Hotel, often said once in a lifetime. Haha, he must have many lifetime. I need to plan my trip to Bangkok again soon.

People said President Bush has low IQ score(among other US presidents). But if he can choose Thailand as the transit place on the way to Beijing, he is smarter than he looks.

Stella said...

OK, maybe I want to stay at Oriental for one night next time. How much is the room rate? Do they have hour rate?
Man, are you doing this blog at work during lunch time(it is 12:30 pm at your end?

Anonymous said...

Stella, I can adjust my time. In the Sea told me before there are some good package from HK. I think one night is not enough, 2-3 nights are better.

I think it is President Bush team to want to stay in Bangkok, not himself.

Hi Man,
You guys still off work today? I see no news regarding the typhoon from Jade Channel's HK News tonight. They only reported the train accident tonight.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Stella. You need to stay at "Oriental" at least 3 nights. Its rate is still affordable compared to those in Palm Spring or Vegas. In fact, the room rate is considered "cheap" for the service and quality it delivers as compared to the same price hotels in the US.
If you can stay at serviced apartment like Centre Point(which is not cheap any way), I think you can try Oriental.
Why you always need a serviced apartment since I know you don't cook so why you need the kitchen?

Mi

she has a private chef while her visit to bangkok :)

I think Stella brings her chef to Bangkok every time.
As she told me she enjoys her chef's home cooking a lot and I saw her chef's home cooking earlier from this blog. It looks delicious.

Oriental - after I stayed there, I know the hotel service can be more than what I usually get. So to refresh my sweet memory, I posted some photos I took in 2006 summer in my blog. :)

So do you know where did Bush go eat in BKK this time?

Thailand Club said...

state dinner at government house, use of local ingredients from royal projects in chiangrai, prepared by the Oriental Hotel

Anonymous said...

Oriental Hotel again? So everything is Oriental Oriental including dinner for Bush. So Oriental is really the number one in Bangkok while its room price is only number two level so it is really worth it.
What are other high end hotels doing in Bangkok?

Anonymous said...

Yes, Oriental is the best to me, both in Bangkok and HK.
From,
Mi

Thailand Club said...

ok, top five 5-star in BKK, by its ranking, r, Oriental Hotel, Peninsula Hotel, Shangri-la Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel, and Inter-Continental Hotel

the first 3 were among the top 100 hotels in the world and top 20 in Asia (while the Oriental is within the top 20 in the world and top 3 in Asia)

Last week the blogger collapse under the midday heat and were sent to the hospital. His doctor called me urgently and raised the question who is 'Or Land Done', as the blogger keep mumbled (in every other 15 seconds) while he was in a half-conscious condition, so the doctor assumed the blogger would like to meet Or Land Done. Is she his wife, his girl friend, or his closed friend? I told the doctor, none of the above. Call 02-6599000 and order a meal from there to him, then he gets faster recovery. Or-land-done is the Oriental in Thai pronunciation.

So the blogger has the Oriental in mind for every second, no matter while he is conscious or not. Just kidding!

Anonymous said...

Mr. Yai, I noticed you have a sense of humour. Your name sounds like Cantonese "naughty". Is it what you name yourself? I enjoyed reading what you all guys write here. Ok I need to go Or Land Done too for the magic.

Man

in the sea said...

Actually the ambulance should have sent him to Or Land Done instead of the hospital for faster cure.

Thailand Club said...

Stella, u really lack some sense of humor.

seems Man and In-the-sea 'get' but u didn't

Thank you Thailand Club. I think maybe we speak in our HK way. After reading more on this blog and In the sea blog, I can start to understand your and Sea's words.

Yai and Fish Burger,
You guys are lucky that you can have dinner with Thailand Club often. Please eat more on behalf of me. My treat.

Stella said...

Hi,
Are you the San Marino Linda? Yes, this(the eating and travel part) is members only. We all have to pay an annual fee in order to be included by Thailand for the gourmet trip treatment. The annual fee is at the blogger's discretion.

Thailand Club said...

ok Yai if u behave well next gathering i will consider to let u join

but this time u made someone nervous so i shall punish u, let me thin first :)

Anonymous said...

Yes Yai,
Your penalty is you have to bring me to Oriental when I come. Ha ha ha.
From,
Stella

in the sea said...

Har... bringing to the Oriental - a penalty? We can go there by ourselves. Or do you mean we have him paying for the meal?

Yai said...

Of course I can bring Stella to the Oriental, and she will pay for my meal. Thanks Stella for your generosity!

Stella said...

Yai,
You are really naughty. I mean your penalty is to bring me to Oriental and treat me. OK, you treat me in Oriental and I will treat you in Mike's Kitchen.

Anonymous said...

Yai,
So you mean Oriental is affiliated with hospital in Bangkok. They cater the food for hospital patients right. I bet the hospital bill is high. Please don't bring me to those high end hospitals.
No wonder lots of people go to Bangkok for physical check up. So the purpose is not the check up but for the eating part.
My banker friend told me she went to one hospital there and it is like a hotel, many restaurants inside and even Starbucks and spas.

Anonymous said...

No.
Oriental Hotel or Restaurant does not affiliate with any hospital at all. There is no connection between Oriental and any hospital whatsoever. The hospital part in this section was a humorous joke.

Stella said...

Yes you are right. Oriental has no connection to any hospitals. However, the hospitals in Bangkok is really gorgeous, it is like a hotel. You guys shall have a physical check up tour there and after the check up you can eat at Oriental Hotel's many restaurants.

I noticed the blogger and In-the-Sea must be busy lately, or both of you are busy together.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Tea and Mr. Sea are busy separately with their own different important things respectively. They shall be back in a week.

Khor Tor Krup (excuse me)! Yes, I was very busy for the past few days. However, a new game has started on my blog already. Check it out www.whispalms.blogspot.com

Stella said...

That is great. Here I come.

Another game? You guys make us to have a lot of fun. Thank you.

Stella said...

I like guessing game but I will be off for one week and be back to here Wednesday night or later.

Mr. Thailand Club told me he had a problem in accessing the blog. So here I am to test if it works in order. Sorry about the inconvenience caused.

Stella said...

Thank you Sea and the bloggers for updating the readers.

in the sea said...

ok, as a courtesy to Stella, a new blog of Stella's new guess game has started on http://sharkanet.blogspot.com/

Have fun.

Stella said...

Thank you Sea and Thailand Club. I am not sure if I can do a new blog though. We'll see. This is too high tech. Do you know all my friends in LA read your 2 blogs(yours and Thailand Club's) the first time and they are so amazed and impressed with the two of you. And please don't comment they are "shu" here.

Thailand Club said...

we never comment anyone 'shu' and we don't comment on French people either

silent is gold!

Thailand Club said...

Stella has a guessing game for u all, u may either log on to http://sharkanet.blogspot.com or simply click 'my friend's blog' link, the post is there thanks to In-the-sea

Har I don't agree that Chinese immigrant in the US and LA are 'shu' bor! Look at those new immigrant scientists, Fortune top 500 celebrities, Yahoo, You Tube ... Chinese are elite in the States.

in the sea said...

Har... Stella, how come you said so. I didn't recall we have such comments "shu", neither do I think we would. Or is it because this blog section is about Bush, similar to Bu "Shu".

OK, talking about friend's blogs, my Pasadena friend has made a blog too as http://web.mac.com/pixmation/pixmation/Photos/Photos.html

Looking at his photos, I recall he once choose photography as his main subject in the Art Center in Pasadena. I told him not to pick that subject at that time. Interesting I was opposed to photography. Now that I found out he was gifted in photography. He is good at viewing things from certain angle and also capturing moments. Also the subject is in a very nice proportion. By the way, his camera is not those DSLR...etc. Just a compact camera can do! So glad that I could see his photos after all these years.

So again this guy is not shu at all. Stella, don't worry there are lots of clever people but just we may not have time to stop and take a look.

Stella said...

Hi Sea,
The "shu" comment is not from you but from your buddy(you know who).
I am glad at least your Pasadena friend is smart. But don't forget he is your LA friend but not mine(that is why he is smart).
I wish your Pasadena friend can have a class teaching taking digital photos and doing blogs so I will register fast.
By the way, if he is student of Art Center, he must be talented. Art Center is not that easy to attend, you have to be both talented and also rich.

Stella said...

William,
I did not mean US or LA people are "shu". I just mentioned most of my friends in LA don't know high tech(especially related to digital photo and blog). So the "tech-shu" only related to my social group. I think I have to expand my social horizon and know more high tech people. Wish all of you are here so you guys can teach me.

Anonymous said...

Stella is right by the way. At least I would not have exposed to reading a blog until she introduced me to. And I was thrilled after reading it. Thank to her introduction and thank to the blogger.
By the way, what is "Shu"?
From,
Mi

OK, I agree with you Mi. We have to than Stella and his friends for introduing the blog to us.

Stella, like I often told the others, pressing the buttons wouldn't explode - of course I mean the electronic stuff we bought - not meaning we are doing it on a public transport or in an elevator. So I often try pressing each button of the thing that I don't know. In any worst case, you just need to reset to its default setting. Every product has its default settings when it is out from the factory. I don't attend any Apple "teaching" class after I bought my iMac. I just clicked on each icon and button or type my question on the apple "question mark" icons. So I know how to use iMovie.

So the point is to read more and do it by yourself. Even if you go to classes, you need to do it and tackle the problems. No problem means you haven't learned it well.

Stella said...

You are right Sea. I need to do more "trial and error" experiments.

the above comments have nothing to do with this post, comments for Ah Yat Abalone Forum Restaurant starts here ...

Stella said...

Ah Yat came to LA earlier to show his cooking of abalone. He charged each person $1,000 US. My customer told me it was good but the food quality only worth like $500 though.(Well, for sure the restaurant and Ah Yat have to get some profit out of this.)

Anonymous said...

Ah Yat (Forum Restaurant) is famous for the braised dried abalone and shark's fin soup, but you didn't show any of them here!

/William

in the sea said...

har.. charging for a cooking class course. However, he already told much details in Jade Channel a few years ago. OK, next time I will post my cooking of Abalone. I did that quite many times for my sisters, and I still remember the way how to cook it. However, I need to spend 3 days for that. :)

Mike said...

Don't forget to charge us $10 per viewing, this is only 1% what Ah Yat charged to those ... hehehe ... gourmet lover in LAX!

Anonymous said...

OK, we look forward to Ah J abalone cooking class. So that Ah Yah will not charge $1,000 next time in LA as he has competition.

Anonymous said...

3 days for cooking abalone? I don't think you need to stay home and watch the fire for 3 days? Can I go to your place and try it instead of watching the photo? :)

he can use slow cooker to braise those little honey-heart abalone

Yai said...

I have been to Ah Yat for lunch, dim sum is quite ok there. My friend told me its original HK branch is an ultra luxury restaurant and its braised dried abalone were rated no.1 in HK and by French gourmet. Then my question was how come Ah Yat in Bangkok doesn't look any grand, it is lack of some luxury, and it located in a run down away-from-city 3-star hotel. Doesn't match the Ah Yat status!

Anonymous said...

Slow cooker? must be very slow. Anyway, I am ready any time to try the abalone. Thank you.

Now Jade Channel is showing the interview of Ah Yat(Yeung Koon Yat). He complained his business dropped a lot in the past 3months due to the recent economy......
We have a magazine called EastWeek(sound "Dong Chow Hong")every Sunday(free with the purchase of Sing Tao Newspaper on Sundays). There is a weekly article inside written by Paco Wong(the "Kam Pai" manager of many singers including Yeung Chien Wah, previously). Paco introduced many good food in HK there. Every week he introdcued one restaurant he went. And after his article also other food blogs(about 10 pages) to follow every time. Check it out.

I like your comments on Shark Fin vs Foie Gra. Even in some western country, they put chicken in a jammed box and those chicken can only grow up with their breast. If they let the chicken out of the box, it can't stand because their feet is very weak. They can't move inside the box. All the time they are squeezed to stand up, even sleeping. So what is cruel?
