BonChon

It's lips licking good!

What do Samsung, Wonder Girls, and BonChon have in common? Besides they are native Korean subjects, and, like most Korean products, they aggressively invaded into every corner of America with no mercy. And BonChon, the fried chicken that "it isn't merely today's best chicken; it's perfect, the best fried chicken that I've ever had", landed in Bangkok.

This one is getting better on our last visit. Another stock market fact for the restaurant. :)

They are all from Korea and they are all popular and profitable.
This chicken place was also introduced in local magazine call Westways.

Bangkok, New Orleans, Florence voted tops for food and wine.

In a surprise for many, Bangkok edges out Hong Kong to clinch top spot on Tripadvisor.com's Travelers' Choice list.

9 October, 2011

Travel website Tripadvisor.com has announced the winners of its 2011 Travelers' Choice Food and Wine Destinations awards, with New Orleans, Florence and Bangkok taking top honors in the United States, Europe and Asia, respectively.

The inaugural Travelers' Choice Food and Wine Destinations award winners are based on traveler ratings and TripAdvisor reviews.

For many, Bangkok edging out Hong Kong to claim top prize in the Asia category comes as a surprise, given Thailand's high taxation rate on imported wine, and all imported alcohol.

Though Bangkok might be making great strides in wine appreciation, it's definitely the food and not the drink that earned this street food mega-city its top spot on the list.

Long revered for its spicy mix of culinary cultures -- including Creole, French, African, Cajun, Native American, and, lately, Asian influences -- New Orleans remains one of the world's prime travel destinations for eating.

Italian cities dominated the European list with Rome, Sorrento, Bolonga and Siena making the top 10.

Maybe the Orange Chicken, Choy Suei and chicken salad can't be found in many menus from restaurants in HK, giving the impression there isn't enough authentic food here. What's more some mainland wine like 茅台 & 五加皮 are picking up here; so the western people may not appreciate these kinds of classic Chinese wine... haha :)

Anyway, HK should fall behind BKK if the price and services factors are counted. Rocket high rent and the laying off of the junior staff in restaurants (due to minimum wage). The seniors need to take more work from the juniors when the restaurants can't afford too many staff. Most of all, when the seniors' salary is HK$10k without any benefit from the minimum wage, then the juniors' salary jumps to HK$8k from 6k. This creates many social problems among the working classes. Some already claimed they don't mind a lower salary as they really want just a place to work. Now that they are forced to be a lazy person to get the Gov't money.

Service is the 2nd important factor affecting the restaurants' business. Though customers are not paying for "a smile", at least they hope they wouldn't see some black face as their appetizers.

Wow TC you really have good survey on the wine and dine.
I totally agree that BKK has good good and good price. If price is taken into the factor, it even exceeds HK as HK is more expensive for the same quality of food that we enjoy in BKK.
Thank you BKK.

yeh i think some voters in TripAdvisor's were upset that HK doesn't serve them orange chicken/pork but the authentic (and proper name) sweet and sour chicken or Najing pork ribs .. hahaha

Lucky to stay in HK or BKK.

I have heard of BonChon too, and soon it will open one in London.
