The popular khao-mun-gai (boiled boneless chicken on rice cooked with broth and chicken fat) is happened to be the Thai answer to the Hainanese chicken rice.

This Hainan Chicken Rice looks pretty authentic.

havn't tried the one at Phaholyothin but the one at Pratunam is nice. I was told the locals would consider the sauce over the rice or chicken.

I also tried the one in Pratunam (midnight gaitong), it is my favourite.

Hainan chicken rice in Bangkok is as good as those in Malaysia and Singapore.

You are right Anonymous 6:55 PM, I was from S'pore and the Hainan Chicken in BKK is at least as good as those from S'pore/Malaysia. In fact it is a lot better putting into the price factor.

right Sea, Thai version of Hainanese chicken rice khao-mun-gai looks into sauce rather than the chicken and rice; as u know, Thais eat anything with sauce, they love sauce

Yes, I can tell it from my local friends, like the way they put the somtam sauce, tom yam, tom kha and whatever sauce/soup. In fact, Swatt told me the original way of taking tom yam is to eat with rice and that told why the thai food is quite salty.

SS, I need to say the Hainanese chicken rice is all different among Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong...etc., as far as I have tried. In Thailand, the locals would mostly use charcoal or some classic way of boiling rice and soup and most of the rice dishes would be with some slices of chicken blood solid and some cucumber. In Singapore, they tend to have a few more dipping sauce and the chilli sauce is very essential. Malaysia is a bit close to Singapore but their rice is a bit more tasty. HK is a mix-mix but the sauce is a bit more sweet/sour and the soy sauce is a bit to sweeter too, but the soup is not that original with even a dried ba choy with sweet dried date..etc. :)
